Girl Haunts Boy starring Peyton List and Michael Cimino coming to Netflix in October

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless twists and turns in virtual worlds, I must admit that the journey of “Girl Haunts Boy” feels eerily similar to one of my favorite RPGs. The title change, the platform switch, the delay – it’s like a quest with unexpected boss battles!

It appears that we’ve got a confirmed streaming release date for the upcoming fantasy romance movie “Girl Haunts Boy“. According to reports, it will be available on Netflix in October. Specifically, you can expect to watch it on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024. Be sure to mark your calendars!

Initially, we became aware of this production around May 2022, but it wasn’t known as “Girl Haunts Boy” or categorized as a movie at that point. In fact, Netflix didn’t play any role in the project. Instead, HBO Max (then known as Max) had approved the project, originally titled “B-Loved”. Rather than being a film, it was intended to be a two-part television special set to air on Max around Valentine’s Day 2023.

Despite initial plans, the special wasn’t released on Max in February 2023 as anticipated. In fact, it didn’t come out at all during this past February. Interestingly, we’ve recently found out that Netflix has taken over the streaming rights and is scheduled to release it as a film on their platform in October instead. Perhaps this delay was due to these new arrangements.

The movie titled “Girl Haunts Boy,” directed by Emily Ting, best known for her work on “Tall Girl 2,” was scripted by Cesar Vitale, a winner of the Black List Nicholl Fellowship. This film revolves around an unusual bond that develops between a young man dealing with grief and a girl’s spirit from the 1920s who resides in his newly acquired home, causing a series of hauntings.

On September 13th, Ting expressed her anticipation for the upcoming release of “Girl Haunts Boy” on Netflix through a Facebook post. Here is the text from the post’s caption:

Two years ago, I was hired by HBO Max to direct a 2 part TV special called “B-Loved” slated for release on Valentine’s Day 2023. Two years later, it is now a movie called “Girl Haunts Boy,” and it’s premiering on Netflix on Oct. 10th!! It’s been an emotional roller coaster for the last two years to say the least, but thanks to the unwavering tenacity of our producer Mark Burton and studio Fifth Season, this absolute gem of a film has found the best home possible. This was one of the best professional experiences of my life, and I can’t wait to finally share the film with you on Oct. 10th! (You’re going to want to watch this one with a box of tissues!)

Michael Cimino, renowned for his role as the lead in “Love, Victor,” takes on the main character of Cole, a teenage boy mourning the death of his father. The actress from “Cobra Kai,” Peyton List, plays Bea, an eccentric teenage ghost who has resided in Cole’s home for centuries. Alongside them in the cast are Andrea Navedo, known for her work on “Jane the Virgin,” Brandon Michael Hall, recognized from both “God Friended Me” and “Search Party,” Ethan Herschenfeld, who recently appeared in “Red Notice,” Shivani Mendez from “The Big Leap,” and Phoebe Holden.

Regrettably, a formal trailer for “Girl Haunts Boy” hasn’t surfaced just yet. However, anticipation is high as Netflix is rumored to unveil the trailer by the end of September. Once it’s out, we’ll make sure to share it here. For now, that’s all the information we have about this intriguing series.
