Over a year has elapsed since Respawn Entertainment and Stig Asmussen ended their partnership. Since then, Asmussen established Giant Skull with the aim of producing action-adventure games within the AAA category. On Monday, it was unveiled that this will be Giant Skull’s debut high-profile project. Wizards of the Coast disclosed a publishing deal with Asmussen’s studio, implying that Giant Skull is now working on a brand new single-player action-adventure game set within the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
John Hight, President of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming at Hasbro, expressed his delight in partnering with Stig and his team at Giant Skull again for a new project. In his statement, he highlighted that Stig’s exceptional talents align perfectly with what they seek in collaborators. Previously working together on God of War, John witnessed Stig’s artistic prowess firsthand, making Giant Skull an ideal choice for their upcoming game. With worldbuilding and storytelling being integral to their identity, this collaboration underscores their dedication to the Playing to Win Strategy, aiming to strengthen their digital play presence. They are eager to share more details about this exciting new Dungeons & Dragons game in due time.
Previously, Asmussen and Hight collaborated on God of War 3 in 2010. At that time, Hight was part of Blizzard Entertainment’s leadership team working on the Warcraft and Diablo franchises. However, he left in July of last year to join Hasbro. On the other hand, Asmussen served as director for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at Respawn Entertainment. Due to some unforeseen circumstances within Electronic Arts, the series did not proceed as planned, leading to the establishment of Giant Skull.
Further details about the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons title from Giant Skull are yet to be revealed. Rest assured, it’s likely that the game will eventually be released for both PC and console platforms. Stay tuned for more updates!
