Ghosts season 4, episode 4 recap and review: "Work Retreat"

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can tell you that sitcoms are like the perfect RPG games – each episode is a quest, and every character has their unique abilities and growth arcs. The fourth episode of Ghosts’ fourth season was no exception; it was a rollercoaster ride for Trevor, and I couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic as his story unfolded.

In the test of Trevor’s catfishing schemes, he discovers unexpected lessons about inheritance. Let’s delve into the happenings of “Ghosts” season 4, episode 4 instead.

Caution: There are SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 4 in this post.

One aspect I appreciate in sitcoms is that many plotlines can be individually complete, yet they leave an enduring impact. This particular episode is bound to create long-lasting impressions on Trevor, though it might occasionally make him grating.

To be truthful, I believe this installment was fantastic for Trevor’s character progression. Despite being trapped in the ’90s, his influence has continued in unexpected manners, living on through time.

Jay becomes Trevor in Ghosts season 4, episode 4

When Trevor discovers that his remote job requires an obligatory work conference, he becomes displeased, as it seems he’ll have to resign. However, cleverly, Sam and Jay devise a solution for this predicament.

They can use Woodstone as the location of the retreat. They can also have Jay pretend to be the persona that Trevor created for his job: Michael Jackson!

Trevor is clever with his character’s intelligence, as he skillfully created an identity that appears authentic yet challenging to find online. Given the prevalence of names like Michael and Jackson, it’s not uncommon to encounter several individuals bearing those names worldwide.

In this scenario, Trevor excels in financial matters, but Jay’s input is crucial to solidify his status as an independent authority. It’s worth noting that Trevor appears somewhat outdated in this episode; his preferred movie is old, and his Slack conversations make him seem older than he probably is. Although Trevor was a leading figure during his lifetime, the passage of time highlights how much life has moved on without him.

Trevor realizes that he doesn’t want his job anymore

All Trevor has ever wanted is to be a legend. He was willing to do that through the persona of Michael Jackson, but he soon learns that it wasn’t his version of the persona that his colleagues like. It’s Jay’s persona, and that means Trevor feel worthless.

In this instance, Jay clinches the victory with the revelation. He discloses that Trevor served as his mentor, albeit in a roundabout manner, and it is then that we grasp the impactful legacy Trevor has bequeathed.

In my fandom, I’m proud to share the story of how an act of kindness against hazing transformed a company entirely. Once upon a time, we had our infamous pant-less run, but it was tainted with malice and meanness. Now, though, we continue this tradition in memory of T-Money, who demonstrated that being cool and kind aren’t mutually exclusive. We do it to honor his legacy, reminding us all to stand against hazing and promote kindness instead.

Trevor comes to understand that his final action held significance. What’s remarkable is that Trevor didn’t act out of fear of imminent death that evening. Instead, he acted from a place of inherent goodness within him – a man who may have had flaws but was compassionate and cared for people genuinely. This act of kindness ripples through time, showing us that acts of goodwill can linger, and witnessing Trevor’s satisfaction could inspire others to perform good deeds.

Hetty and Sas start a rumor

Meanwhile, Hetty and Sas find themselves entwined in their own minor subplot. They’re growing restless, as neither of them were warned about the endless nature of existence in the afterlife. Sas spends his days anxiously watching a damaged branch, hoping it will finally break after 23 long years. By the way, I really hope the show delves back into this storyline someday, so we can see that branch actually give way!

Regarding Sas and Hetty, they opt to spread a gossip. It’s their source of amusement, and truth be told, I can’t fault them for seeking such entertainment. These two are quite entertaining together when they engage in activities like this, but unfortunate Pete, who’s left puzzled as to why people doubt his relationship with a girl named Donna.

In this case, Sam emerges victorious. However, as it turns out, Donna’s authenticity is questionable – not because she lacks proof, but due to the unfortunate circumstances that her proof comes from a documentary detailing her husband’s murder. Regrettably, poor Pete was her victim.

As a gamer, what I’d like to see is Pete toning down the overconfidence a bit, given his newfound abilities. It’s important for him to understand that boasting about where he can go or what he can do isn’t very sportsmanlike now that he’s mastered his power.
