Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been tapped to lead a new Sony television show called Ghostman.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be recognized for my roles as David Kane/Black Manta in Aquaman (2018) and its sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). Excitingly, I’ll be stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with my upcoming role in Wonder Man. Keep your eyes peeled for that one later this year! Additionally, I can’t wait for you all to see me as John Creasy in Netflix’s adaptation of Man on Fire.
According to the report, Abdul-Mateen II and his company, House Eleven10, have agreed on a multiple-year contract with Sony Pictures Television. This agreement allows them to develop scripted dramas for both streaming and cable television platforms.
First up is Ghostman, which is an adaptation of Roger Hobbs’ 2013 novel of the same name.
What is Ghostman about?
The character known as Ghostman excels at making things vanish, but when an ill-fated casino heist results in vast amounts of money being left behind, he only has 48 hours to rectify the situation—all while outsmarting someone who is determined to eliminate him.
Abdul-Mateen II expressed his excitement in a statement, “We’re overjoyed about collaborating with Katherine, Lauren, Andrew, Eric, and the talented team at Sony Pictures Television,” said Abdul-Mateen. “At House Eleven10, creativity knows no bounds, and we couldn’t have found a more suitable place to bring our vision of crafting captivating and innovative stories to life.
Andrew Plotkin from Sony Pictures Television expressed his excitement, saying, ‘We’re delighted to welcome Yahya and his team into the Sony family. He’s not just a fantastic actor, but also a gifted storyteller whose creativity and vision will make every project he works on even more remarkable. His dedication to creating deep, engaging stories resonates perfectly with our mission to share unique and impactful tales with viewers around the globe.’
Among Abdul-Mateen II’s acting roles are the films “The Greatest Showman” (2017), “Us” (2019), “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (2020), “Candyman” and “The Matrix Resurrections” (both from 2021), and more recently, “Ambulance” (2022). Furthermore, he appeared in the HBO miniseries “Watchmen”.
A premiere date for Ghostman has not yet been announced by Sony Pictures Television.
