Yoshida vows Ghost of Yotei is “even better” than Tsushima
A French PlayStation retailer known as “PlayStation Inside” has recently shared an English translation of an interview with Shuhei Yoshida, who previously served as president of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The entire conversation is captivating, delving into diverse subjects like the potential Nintendo Switch 2, price hikes, artificial intelligence, and much more. They wanted to know why Ghost of Yotei was so successful and if there’s a particular strategy for Western games to be well-received in Japan.
Yoshida conceded that “Japan can be challenging for video games originating from the West,” and creators require a deep comprehension of Japanese culture, particularly when developing titles such as Ghost of Tsushima and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
In discussing what made Ghost of Tsushima feel authentically Japanese, Yoshida explained that Sucker Punch collaborated closely with a producer from SIE Japan, as well as team members at Japan Studio. Additionally, they traveled to Tsushima Island and took great care to understand its history and traditions. This dedication has not only resulted in the game’s success but also increased tourism on the island itself.
