Ghost of Tsushima Anime in the Works From Crunchyroll

An animated adaptation of “Ghost of Tsushima” titled “Ghost of Tsushima: The Anime Series” has been confirmed by Crunchyroll. Currently under production, it is expected to be released within a specified timeframe.

What do we know about the Ghost of Tsushima anime?

At Sony Group Corporation’s CES 2025 event, it was revealed that the upcoming anime is inspired by Sucker Punch Productions’ popular game, Ghost of Tsushima, more specifically its multiplayer expansion, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which debuted in 2020.

This upcoming anime will debut exclusively on Crunchyroll, tentatively set to air in 2027. Known for his work on “Star Wars: Visions,” Takanobu Mizuno will direct the series, while Gen Urobuchi will craft its storyline. The production of this anime is a collaboration between Aniplex.

At this point, no additional details about the series have been disclosed. However, Crunchyroll mentioned that further information such as the creative team and voice actors will be unveiled at a later time.

Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, stated that this project showcases the collaborative genius within Sony, as it brings together the talents from PlayStation Studios and PlayStation Productions, Sucker Punch Productions and Aniplex, Sony Music’s renowned artists, and Crunchyroll’s global marketing and distribution network. The Ghost of Tsushima anime will provide fans with a thrilling, novel way to engage with the game, offering an anime-style experience that promises to be both daring and innovative.

First debuting in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. It tells the tale of Jin Sakai, a samurai who embarks on a mission to safeguard Tsushima Island during Japan’s first Mongol invasion. The game achieved immense popularity and there’s a sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, scheduled for release this year. Furthermore, rumors suggest that a movie adaptation of the game is underway, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski at the helm.
