Based on a tweet from a reputable source, known as “German CS Leaks,” it has been suggested that a new team made up of some of the most prominent figures in German Counter-Strike competition is currently being planned.
New German Superteam in the Making?
The whispered lineup is said to feature three players from the 2020 BIG Clan, a team that reached the top of the world rankings: Florian “syrsoN” Rische, Tizian “tiziaN” Feldbusch, and Nils “k1to” Gruhne. It is also rumored that they will be joined by David “prosus” Hesse, another former BIG player, as well as the promising newcomer Phillip “w1dow” Hemke, who has so far only made brief substitute appearances for Alternate AttaX.
Enhancing the anticipation further is the speculation that the team might resurrect Sprout, a German entity that ceased functioning in early 2024. If this materializes, it’s expected that the team would be overseen by Daniel Paulus, who previously led the organization for nearly six years until its dissolution. Currently, Paulus is managing the German Simracing team “Team Nitro”.
The reemergence of a powerful second German team could mark a significant shift within the local scene. Apart from BIG Clan, no other German team has made it to the top-tier international scene for quite some time.
A Reunion of Champions?
It’s been reported that the lineup has a significant connection with both BIG and Sprout. In the early part of 2020, syrsoN and k1to moved from Sprout to BIG, joining tiziaN, Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş, and Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz to create what is considered the strongest BIG esports team ever assembled.
Under Tobias “tow b” Herberhold and tabseN’s leadership, BIG ruled the online gaming scene during the pandemic, climbing to the top of the HLTV rankings, an unprecedented accomplishment for a team primarily composed of Germans.
Over time, the team’s lineup disintegrated: XANTARES departed to establish Eternal Fire with his fellow Turks. Later on, tiziaN was benched in 2022, followed by k1to in 2023 and syrsoN at the end of 2024, all after their second tenure with BIG. Now, tabseN remains as the lone player from that golden era. In the interim, Sprout experienced significant difficulties post-departure of syrsoN and k1to, ultimately shifting to an international roster.
As a passionate esports enthusiast, I’ve always harbored hopes for a second top-tier German CS:GO team to join BIG in the HLTV rankings. Now, it seems like this long-cherished dream could be on the verge of becoming reality!
Can This Roster Work?
Should the rumors be accurate, this prospective roster promises a captivating blend of seasoned veterans and promising youth.
- tiziaN – A veteran support player known for his selfless play style and leadership qualities. On Entropiq he gathered a lot of experience as an in-game leader, making him the most likely candidate for said position.
- k1to – An aggressive rifler with strong firepower, but inconsistent performances. In the right environment, he could definitely shine again.
- syrsoN – Germany’s greatest ever AWPer. In his prime, he was a game-changer and to this day the only German player to ever make the HLTV top 20 list, but his form has been shaky ever since the switch to CS2.
- prosus – A young talent who had a brief chance in BIG’s main roster, but couldn’t cement his place. This could be his shot at redemption.
- w1dow – The unknown factor. He has previously appeared as a stand-in for Alternate AttaX and could be a hidden gem.
A significant question that arises is: Who will take charge of this team? The apparent front-runner, Fatih “gob b”, might not be an option due to his substantial shareholder position, even though he no longer holds the head coach role. An potential replacement could be Nikola “LEGIJA”, who is currently jobless and boasts a wealth of coaching experience within the German esports scene.
In theory, this proposed team lineup would work well given that all players are either without a squad or sitting on the bench. TiziaN could take on both leading and supporting roles, with SyrsoN manning the AWP position. K1to could play his usual entry role, while Prosus and W1dow form the rifle group. However, this is a discussion for another day as we wait to see if this roster will materialize in reality. For now, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding its potential formation.
A New Era for German CS?
Over the past few years, many German computer science enthusiasts have dreamed of seeing a second elite team rise among them beside BIG. Although Sprout eventually adopted an international strategy, if they were to return with a purely German squad, it could provide just the boost that the scene has been missing.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but wonder: Will this game truly see the light of day? Or is it simply an unfounded rumor destined to remain a pipe dream?

Without a doubt, the enthusiasm within the German Computer Science community is at an all-time high in years! If they manage to unite, this group has the potential not just to revive Sprout, but also to create a genuine second powerhouse in German Counter-Strike.
Is it possible that we are witnessing the beginning of a new golden age for Computer Science in Germany, or at the very minimum, the initial significant move towards such an era?
