During the filming of 300, the cast faced intense struggles just as brutally as what was shown on screen, according to Gerard Butler.
What happened to Gerard Butler while filming 300?
When conversing with others, Butler discussed his time filming Zack Snyder’s grandiose war movie, 300 – a production set amidst the Greco-Persian Wars. He shared insights on how the portrayal of these intense fight sequences resulted in numerous injuries that necessitated hospitalization.
Butler recalled that almost daily, someone would end up being rushed to the hospital,” he said. “During a fight, you’d spin around and find someone with a spear in their eye, or another time, someone lying there who had broken their ankle. frankly, it was absolutely chaotic.
In the movie, Butler takes on the role of King Leonidas from Sparta, who rallies 300 warriors to fight against over 300,000 Persian troops. Released in 2006, the film, titled “300,” was a massive box office success, earning $456 million globally while only costing $65 million to produce. This financial triumph played a significant role in boosting Butler’s career as an action star, a position he continues to hold prominently today.
In the course of our chat, I shared some harrowing incidents involving injuries sustained while working on film sets. One unforgettable close call was during the 2012 movie “Chasing Mavericks” where I nearly drowned while surfing.
Butler expressed that he believed his work was completed when suddenly he needed assistance, was rushed to the hospital, underwent unconsciousness, and received a defibrillator shock. In simpler terms, it was an extremely intense experience for him.
During the shooting of Butterfly on a Wheel in 2007, Butler claimed that Pierce Brosnan accidentally collided him with a wall, causing an injury to his neck.
Butler stated that we crashed into a 3-foot tall wall on the rooftop at high speed in a Range Rover. This impact severely injured my neck, and to make matters worse, it happened after the 300th round.
Even with all of these battle wounds, Butler said he “wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Butler’s latest action movie, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, is now in theaters.
