As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the revelation about Geralt potentially visiting Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 from The Witcher 3 is nothing short of mind-blowing! If only this quest had made it to the final cut, imagine the sheer excitement of watching Geralt navigate through the neon-lit streets of Night City!
As per the modding project What Lies Unseen, an initial concept for a quest in The Witcher 3 was intended to transport Geralt of Rivia into Night City, the setting of Cyberpunk 2077.
An Incredible Find in What Lies Unseen: This fascinating endeavor, which delved into the development chronicles of The Witcher 3, has uncovered something astonishing: It appears Geralt of Rivia nearly walked the streets of Night City, a location from Cyberpunk 2077.
Through Time and Space
In a previous draft of the quest titled “Through Time and Space”, Geralt and Avallac’h would have been transported to the primary urban center, or city, of the world depicted in Cyberpunk 2077.
In the unveiled edition of the adventure, The Witcher and the sage must traverse various realms to arrive at the homeworld of the Wild Hunt. Along their journey, they find themselves stranded on a barren planet, a corrosive marsh, an underwater grotto, and a world that has been decimated by the White Frost.
The recently discovered variant presents a marked change, as it places the initial portal within a Redanian fortification instead of Novigrad. Additionally, it shows these characters being transported several weeks back in time to King Radovid’s reign.
Without a doubt, the standout distinction is the entrance to Night City that they both discuss during this conversation. In fact, Geralt and Avallac’h even reference it in their dialogue.
Geralt: “What… What is this place? Is this the afterlife?”
Avallac’h: “No. Just another of the realities the Spiral leads through… Technologically advanced, but broken. Dying.”
Geralt: “Disgusting. This stench, noise… How can you live here?!”
Avallac’h: “You should know better. This world is inhabited by humans, not elves.”
The creators of What Lies Unseen mentioned that developers from CD Projekt Red also discussed a similar scenario, although it’s unknown how the interaction between The Witcher 3 characters and those in Cyberpunk 2077 might have unfolded.
More connections between Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3
Based on information from the WLU team, there was initially a plan for Geralt to give some coins to a beggar in Novigrad during that particular scene. They intended to subtly incorporate this by depicting Geralt as a wealthy character in Cyberpunk 2077 as an Easter egg.
It appears that the initial concept for linking these two games and their worlds has been abandoned. Instead, you’ll find intriguing Easter eggs as subtle hints, such as a puzzling clue in Cyberpunk 2077 that corresponds to a secret room in The Witcher 3.
Hey there! Have you had a chance to delve into the worlds of The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077? Ever wondered what it would be like if Geralt got a taste of Night City action? I can’t help but wonder how thrilling it would be for him to be whisked away!
