Geoff Keighley teases The Beast is Coming; I can’t figure out if it’s a film or a game

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the anticipation for The Beast is Coming has me both intrigued and apprehensive. My heart skips a beat at the sight of any horror-themed project, and this one, with its gritty, live-action teaser, has sent shivers down my spine.

At Gamescom, we’ll officially unveil and announce “The Beast is Coming,” an intriguing venture that leans towards horror. It could potentially manifest as a movie, a game, an interactive blend of both, or something entirely different. A tantalizing teaser on the YouTube channel of The Game Awards has hinted at this project’s upcoming official reveal, which will take place during Opening Night Live, the inaugural event of the convention.

The trailer you’re seeing is entirely real-life footage, and it’s hard to discern where cinema ends and video games begin. Previously, we’ve had full live-action trailers for games, so there’s a strong possibility that this could be one of them. On the other hand, Keighley has hinted at non-game announcements during Gamescom this year as well.

The reveal was met by instant criticism from fans who often feel like live-action and full-CGI trailers are a misdirection from the actual gameplay, and instead sell the game based on aesthetics. With how guttural, bloody, and realistic the teaser is, it’s likely that the actual announcement will need a little more oomph to have prospective players (or audiences) convinced.

As a die-hard fan of horror, having grown up on classics like “The Exorcist” and “Nightmare on Elm Street,” I can confidently say that this year’s Gamescom focus on the genre is music to my ears! Whether it’s a chilling film, spine-tingling TV series, or heart-stopping video game, I can hardly wait to see what frightening delights await me. The thrill of the unknown and the adrenaline rush that accompanies every jump scare are experiences I cherish, and I eagerly anticipate yet another exciting entry into this genre that has captivated my imagination for so long.

In response to the preference expressed within this conversation for actual footage rather than live-action or CGI trailers, Keighley suggested that tuning in might be advisable, indicating his encouragement for the likelihood that what we’re discussing could indeed be a movie trailer.

It should be noted that The Beast is Coming probably has nothing to do with Mr. Beast. But we can’t confirm that for until it’s announced fully.
