In a chat with Soap Opera Digest, Gibson shared that he anticipated a tough road to gain acceptance among General Hospital viewers. “Since I’ve been a recast actor before, I understand there might be some initial resistance,” he said. However, Gibson felt warmth from the fans after stepping into the role of Michael, replacing Chad Duell, indicating their support for him in the character.
At first, the actor anticipated encountering some unfavorable responses. He acknowledged that there could be criticism, and maybe people wouldn’t immediately take a liking to him. To deal with this, he decided to temporarily avoid social media. Interestingly, he disclosed that he doesn’t possess an official X (previously Twitter) account, but he does maintain an Instagram account. He made a conscious effort to distance himself from any controversies due to his expectation that things might become rather “heated” for a period of time.
Despite his expectation, the response from fans took him completely aback. His early interactions suggested that he was warmly welcomed and shown genuine affection by his audience, which made it clear to him that he had found a warm and accepting home among the General Hospital community.
