LaRue conveyed to Soap Opera Digest her feelings regarding the exit signs, which she noticed in January. She disclosed how the creators attempted to revive her “character.” All of a sudden, she found herself acting out scenes where Sonny would say, “We can no longer be friends,” following Natalia’s betrayal by lying about her ex-husband. The actress came to understand that her character’s time was limited as her connection with Sonny was essentially the only thing keeping her alive in the storyline.

Although the 58-year-old woman didn’t specifically explain her departure, she hinted that it might have been because audiences found it challenging to embrace Natalia’s love storyline with Sonny. She admitted that convincing viewers to support Natalia was a struggle and they had a hard time accepting her romantic angle. Essentially, she explained that the audience didn’t find her character likable enough, making it difficult for them to accept her relationship with Sonny, no matter what the writers did to try to change their perception of her character.

Later on, La Rue stated, “When they ultimately abandoned that concept, it struck me, ‘Perhaps my days here are numbered.'” Regardless, she remains thankful for her tenure and encounters at General Hospital.
