A freshly released report by the National Research Group detailing their investigation into beloved actors among Generation Z contains some intriguing findings, such as several top picks being from previous eras.
Who are Gen Z’s favorite actors?
The prestigious National Research Group, a well-known entertainment statistics company, has been questioning Americans about dramatic actors for quite some time. This year’s surveys, as reported by Puck, have expanded to provide age-specific statistics. Among Gen Z (individuals aged 12-27), the top 25 “thespian stars” show intriguing results.
The current ranking of the top 25 theater actors most admired by Generation Z was updated in August 2024, and here it is:
1. [Actor 1]
2. [Actor 2]
3. [Actor 3]
…
24. [Actor 24]
25. [Actor 25]
This ranking may have changed since August 2024, as the preferences of Gen Z fans can evolve over time.
- Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson (+1)
- Ryan Reynolds (-1)
- Kevin Hart (+1)
- Tom Cruise (+2)
- Adam Sandler (+2)
- Brad Pitt (+3)
- Zendaya (+1)
- Denzel Washington (+2)
- Keanu Reeves (+12)
- Leonardo DiCaprio (+9)
- Johnny Depp (-5)
- Will Smith (+1)
- Tom Holland (-1)
- Robert Downey Jr. (-11)
- Scarlett Johansson (+1)
- Timothée Chalamet (+22)
- Tom Hanks (+1)
- Margot Robbie (-4)
- Ariana Grande (+42)
- Jenna Ortega (NC)
- Chris Hemsworth (-6)
- Jim Carrey (+27)
- Angelina Jolie (+11)
- Mark Wahlberg (+21)
- Florence Pugh (+41)
Interestingly, among Gen Z’s most prominent theater actors, just seven are below the age of 40. Even more surprising is that, aside from six individuals (Zendaya, Tom Holland, Ariana Grande, Jenna Ortega, and Florence Pugh), everyone else on the list is over 25 years old.
Distinctive aspects of data reveal that a few young celebrities, such as Chalamet, Grande, and Pugh, have experienced a remarkable surge in influence over a short period. Notably, they’ve all witnessed substantial growth in perceived star power since last year. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that some established stars like Jim Carrey and Mark Wahlberg have gained significant popularity among Generation Z recently.
Although Gen Z shows a fondness for veteran actors, their preference for younger stars remains more intense compared to the overall admiration the older actors receive from the general audience. Actors like Zendaya, Holland, Chalamet, Grande, Ortega, Pugh, Chris Evans, and Jack Black are more popular among Gen Z than they are across the broader age spectrum of 12-74 year olds in America.
