As a gamer with a heart full of magic and a mind brimming with memories, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia upon hearing Gary Oldman’s jest about potentially playing Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO reboot of Harry Potter. I remember the thrill of seeing him portray Sirius Black, a character that added depth and intrigue to the series, in the Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, and Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
In the Harry Potter series, Gary Oldman played Sirius Black, yet he recently quipped that his advanced age could make him suitable for a new part in the forthcoming HBO revival of the franchise.
In an interview with Indiewire, Oldman was asked if he might join the series. The actor expressed his belief that Warner Bros. Discovery is aiming to bring in fresh talent for its cast, and jokingly suggested that he might soon be old enough to portray Albus Dumbledore, the Hogwarts headmaster.
In his words, Oldman expressed affection for the character Sirius he portrayed in the films, feeling that there wasn’t enough screen time given to him. He described it as if Sirius appeared and then passed through some barrier. Speculating about future productions, Oldman mentioned that he believes a new cast may be assembled in the coming years. Hypothetically speaking, he even suggested the possibility of reprising his role as Dumbledore at some point down the line.
What do we know about the HBO Harry Potter series?
Back in 2004, I stepped into the magical world of Harry Potter as Sirius Black in The Prisoner of Azkaban. Following that, I appeared in The Goblet of Fire in ’05, The Order of the Phoenix in ’07, and lastly, in the epic finale, The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011. In these movies, my character, Sirius Black, was initially portrayed as a villain, but as the story unfolded, it was revealed that I was actually Harry Potter’s godfather. Throughout the latter half of the films, I became a crucial part of the series.
At present, there’s an ongoing search for child actors residing in the UK and Ireland for the upcoming HBO revival of the Harry Potter series. The project is set to begin production sometime around 2025, as indicated by the casting call’s stipulation that potential actors should be between 9 and 11 years old at that time. These selected young performers will take over the roles previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the successful movie franchise, as they were all cast when quite young.
