GameStop Retro locations have started opening

As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, this news has me feeling like I just found a secret stash of rare cartridges hidden in the attic. The return of retro gaming sections at GameStop locations is a dream come true!

In the past, each GameStop store would provide a variety of vintage video games, neatly organized in bins filled with nostalgic cartridges and CDs from Nintendo, Sega, and other retro systems. However, this practice was eventually discontinued by the retailer. Now, it seems that the demand for old-school gaming has resurged. On Tuesday, GameStop hinted that certain stores will adopt the GameStop Retro branding and resume selling physical editions of classic games once more.

THE CLASSICS ARE BACK.

New Retro GameStops are now spawning near you:

The information originates from GameStop’s (previously known as Twitter) official account. Some GameStop stores plan to stock games for classic gaming systems, spanning from the era of the Nintendo Entertainment System up to the generation that includes the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. It’s worth noting that these systems – the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U – are now considered retro, so make sure to adjust your records or lists accordingly.

For nearly ten years, GameStop’s online platform has been offering physical versions of classic video games. However, it seems that their physical stores might soon join in this venture. Unfortunately, it appears they are only stocking games from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and Sega consoles, leaving collectors of Atari Jaguar or Panasonic 3DO games disappointed.

In a recent update, GameStop (GME) has revealed that it will release its Q2 2024 earnings report on Tuesday, September 10. Keep an eye on Shacknews as we’ll bring you the latest news about GameStop following this announcement.
