As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for blockbuster horror comedies, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement when hearing about the future of the Ghostbusters franchise! With Gil Kenan confirming more movies on the horizon and an animated series in development with Netflix, it seems like our favorite ghost-busting crew is here to stay.
Director Gil Kenan of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has confirmed that there are plans for additional Ghostbusters movies in development, following the success of the blockbuster horror comedy six months after its theatrical release, which raked in over $200 million globally at the box office.
What did director Gil Kenan say about the upcoming Ghostbusters movies?
Despite Frozen Empire garnering varied opinions from critics, it appears Sony Pictures is still planning to broaden the franchise. In a recent interview, Kenan hinted at more Ghostbusters films ahead, and he also shared some insights about Netflix’s upcoming Ghostbusters animated series. He suggested that this show could potentially feature interconnected stories within the Ghostbusters universe.
Kenan stated through TheDirect, “Indeed, Jason Reitman… we hold the duty and delight of maintaining the torch of Ghostbusters with great care. We’re definitely carrying on the discussion of creating grand Ghostbusters tales for the big screen. Keep an eye out, as there will be more updates about this in the future.
He went on to say, “We’ve been working diligently on our animated series in collaboration with Netflix. This project is something I’m deeply engaged in day by day, Jason, and we’re really looking forward to the narratives that are shaping up. The way these stories connect with the Ghostbusters tales you and I cherish will provide an exhilarating experience for our viewers.
The most recent addition to the popular horror-comedy series Ghostbusters is titled “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” and it was helmed by director Kenan (known for his work on Monster House and City of Ember). Alongside Jason Reitman, Kenan co-wrote the screenplay. The movie features a star-studded cast that includes Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Celeste O’Connor, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, and more.
