Furukawa says Switch 2 My Nintendo Store applications far exceed launch console supply expectations

Today, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, managed a session on the Nintendo X platform to share some news. It turns out, the demand for the My Nintendo Store Switch 2 versions has surpassed the number of consoles that will be available for delivery on June 5, 2025. If you aren’t among the lucky ones drawn in the initial lottery, Nintendo plans to register you again for a second chance. Furukawa further revealed that in Japan alone, My Nintendo Store received an astounding 2.2 million applications and the company has seen an overwhelming number of registrations overall.

Here’s a translation of the tweet from the official Nintendo X account.

Hi there! Furukawa speaking. We’ve been stockpiling materials ahead of time to ensure smooth production for the Nintendo Switch 2. Back on April 2nd, we unveiled details about the Nintendo Switch 2 and started accepting lottery applications on our My Nintendo Store. The response was overwhelming – over 2.2 million people applied in Japan alone! However, this figure surpasses our expectations, and there will be far fewer Nintendo Switch 2 consoles available for sale on June 5th from the My Nintendo Store. Regrettably, this means that a significant number of applicants may not be selected when the winners are announced tomorrow, April 24th.

To make it easier for those who didn’t win in the initial lottery draw, My Nintendo Store will automatically enter them into the next lottery round. However, please note that due to the high demand, we won’t be able to fill every application. We genuinely regret that our preparations weren’t enough to meet your expectations this time around.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that we’re ramping up our production lines to deliver an even stronger gaming experience with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. Starting April 24th, you’ll be able to pre-order or participate in lottery sales for this highly anticipated console at game retailers and online stores across the nation. Be sure to check each store’s specific details for their processes.

For those who prefer shopping online, the Nintendo Switch 2 will also be available at our My Nintendo Store post-release (more information about that will be shared later). We’re working closely with retailers to ensure a smooth distribution and are making every effort to get as many Nintendo Switch 2 consoles into your hands as possible.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey!

Moving forward, we intend to keep manufacturing and distributing many Nintendo Switch 2 systems. We regret any inconvenience caused by delays in meeting your expectations, and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.

If you’re among those unfortunate ones who didn’t win in the My Nintendo Store lottery, fear not! We’ve prepared an extensive pre-order guide for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 to ensure you don’t miss out on securing your own unit.

The anticipated release date for Nintendo Switch 2 is June 5th, however, concerns over tariffs and game prices have cast a shadow on its launch. Despite this, demand for the new console remains undeterred. To meet this demand, production will be increased, which should make it easier to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 by holiday season.
