From “Hitler” To “Henry” – E-Sports Player Changes His Name And Apologizes

PUBG Mobile Esports continues to thrive as one of the top esport games globally. Recently, an Indian team emerged victorious in the 2025 BMPS Pro Series, securing a place at the World Cup. However, the team’s name and particularly one player’s moniker have garnered significant controversy.

As an enthusiastic supporter, I found myself questioning the choice of my favorite Indian team’s name: Aryan X TMG. The moniker certainly stirred up a fair amount of curiosity, with some justifying it as meaning “noble” in Sanskrit. However, when I learned that the team leader shares the same name, Aryan, and another player opted for the name “Hitler,” my admiration for their choice waned significantly.

Apology And Name-Change

Following criticism for their initially chosen name, the team swiftly rebranded as Team AxTMG. Initially known as “Hitler,” they were prohibited from competing in the World Cup under that moniker and opted instead for “Henry.” In recognition of those offended by the previous names, the team issued an apology. On his Instagram account, “Henry” extended a more detailed apology, acknowledging that he had adopted the name without fully grasping its historical significance and the pain it might cause.

Hitler In India

Let’s tackle an unusual situation head-on: Why was it possible for a player named “Hitler” to participate? This issue originates from how the Holocaust and Hitler are handled in India, resulting in some unexpected outcomes. In India, the study of the Holocaust is often overlooked, and the Second World War is seldom taught in schools, leaving many Indians with limited knowledge about World War 2.

In some contexts, the term “Hitler” has been used colloquially to denote someone who is strict or authoritative. This is why a TV show titled “Hitler Didi,” which revolves around a stern older sister, exists in India. While this naming choice may be less surprising with this information, it remains equally distasteful. It’s essential to consider the history and connotations of names before using them officially, as you might find that the name you choose has undesirable associations or meanings.
