With the announcement that Friday Night Lights is making a comeback as a new version, one of the main actors from the original series, Taylor Kitsch, has spoken up about the potential for his return. This sports-themed drama first appeared on television in 2006 and portrayed the struggles of a high school football team that faced numerous challenges. Despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles, the team persevered, aiming to win their games. As a reboot is now being developed, Kitsch has shared his thoughts on whether he will be part of the revamped Friday Night Lights storyline.
Taylor Kitsch says he’s ‘been asked’ to be in Friday Night Lights’ reboot
The well-known Canadian actor has mentioned he’s considering a return for the remake of the highly praised series, but clarified that he doesn’t plan on taking up a main role again.
Taylor Kitsch revealed details about the potential Friday Night Lights reboot during his latest interview on Sirius XM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw. When asked about returning for the series, he replied, “I appreciate the interest. I never rule things out completely. But I would be open to making a guest appearance in an episode.” Additionally, Kitsch clarified that he wouldn’t want to take on the full role again, saying, “I wouldn’t want to reprise my character as the main lead or for a reboot. However, I’d love to come back and have fun with it.
Despite some initial reservations, it appeared the actor had a firm grasp of the role he might take up in the Friday Night Lights revival if he decided to return. He suggested he’d be open to replaying his previous character, Tim Riggins. Taylor Kitsch even offered an alternative suggestion, saying, “Perhaps I could play a coach from the opposing team and only appear for a few seconds. Yes, I’d consider that.
In November 2024, Variety reported that a revival of Friday Night Lights is indeed happening, according to NBCUniversal’s confirmation. Though the series is still being developed, there hasn’t been an announced release date so far. However, Peacock has revealed the show’s official summary, hinting at a premiere on their platform sometime soon.
