As a seasoned gamer with an unquenchable thirst for cinematic masterpieces, I can hardly contain my excitement over Francis Ford Coppola‘s upcoming epic, Megalopolis. Having grown up immersed in Coppola’s iconic films like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, I’ve always felt a kinship with the director’s grandiose vision and storytelling prowess.
According to reports, Francis Ford Coppola has plans for creating two films post his project titled “Megalopolis”. One of these movies is expected to be financed using the revenue generated by a grand epic featuring Adam Driver in leading roles.
In September, theatergoers in the U.S. will have a chance to see Megalopolis, a movie produced by Lionsgate Films. The movie was both written and directed by Coppola, who personally invested around $120 million for its production.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Coppola was queried whether Megalopolis would mark the end of his filmmaking career or if he harbored aspirations for more cinematic endeavors in the future.
He replied, “Currently, I’m developing two possible projects. One is a conventional film I’d like funded and produced in England since I don’t have many personal memories associated with my wife in England; everywhere else reminds me of her. The other project is titled ‘Distant Vision,’ which follows the story of an Italian-American family, similar to mine, but fictionalized, over three generations during which television was invented. I plan to finance it using funds from a different project called ‘Megalopolis.’ I’m considering taking another risk with that one.”
Francis Ford Coppola is recognized for creating films such as The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), Apocalypse Now (1979), The Outsiders (1983), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), The Godfather Part III (1990), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) and numerous others.
When will Megalopolis be released in theaters?
At the Cannes Film Festival held in May, Megalopolis is set for a US theater release on September 27, 2024.
“The story of ‘Megalopolis’ is a modern-day Roman epic, fictitiously set in contemporary America. In this city, known as New Rome, there arises tension between two main characters: Cesar Catilina, a visionary artist yearning for utopia and progressive change, and Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who advocates for preserving the existing system marked by self-interest, corruption, and political strife. Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, finds herself torn between her love for Cesar and her loyalty to her father, ultimately having to decide where her beliefs lie regarding humanity’s destiny.”
Besides Driver, the movie also features actors like Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, among others.
