Former WWE Star Says Seth Rollins as WWE’s ‘Go-to Guy’ During Roman Reigns’ Rise

As a long-time WWE enthusiast with decades of memories etched into my fanatic heart, I can confidently say that Seth Rollins has been an unsung hero in the wrestling world. While Roman Reigns was struggling to find his footing and connect with fans, Seth Rollins consistently shone as a beacon of excellence.

Over the last ten years, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, who are part of The Shield group, have held a significant reign in the world of WWE. Although Roman Reigns has been the leading figure in WWE since 2015, his journey to that position was marked by challenges during his initial ascent for quite some time.

Regardless of WWE’s persistent attempts to establish Roman Reigns as a top contender through major WrestleMania battles against legendary figures like The Undertaker, Triple H, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and Randy Orton, his “Big Dog” persona failed to resonate with the audience. Fans consistently refused to embrace Roman Reigns as WWE’s leading star, expressing their dissatisfaction with his trajectory by booing him for years on end.

During this period, Reigns strived to gain fan approval. On the other hand, Seth Rollins effortlessly resonated with them through his impressive performances, engaging personality, and captivating character. It was Rollins who consistently managed to win over fans. Yet, while WWE aimed to make Reigns the fresh embodiment of their brand, they never viewed Rollins as the one to spearhead this transformation.

Initially, Roman Reigns had trouble defining his character within WWE, but eventually, they transformed him into a heel in 2020, unveiling his Tribal Chief persona that resonated well with the audience. Over time, Roman Reigns earned acceptance as the main figure of WWE. More recently, ex-WWE star Dolph Ziggler has praised Seth Rollins for being WWE’s primary asset during the periods when Roman Reigns was not yet prepared to take on that role.

Dolph Ziggler praises Seth Rollins for holding WWE together for years

On Busted Open Radio, ex-WWE star Dolph Ziggler voiced his opinions about the latest CM Punk and Seth Rollins episode on RAW. Ziggler openly backed Rollins amidst the ongoing storyline, despite fans generally siding with CM Punk.

During a span of around five to six years, I found myself frequently locking horns with Rollins while Roman Reigns was on his way to becoming a top-tier star. I expressed that during this time, it seemed like we were striving to establish Seth as the primary player. He was our reliable choice.

Ziggler emphasized that people tend to overlook the fact that Seth Rollins was the mainstay in WWE for a long period, taking over when others faltered, even Roman Reigns. He added that being against Rollins gave him a front-row view of his pivotal function.

Last year, Dolph Ziggler parted ways with WWE following almost twenty years of association. During that time, fans enjoyed numerous memorable bouts featuring Ziggler versus Seth Rollins, from the years 2014 to 2019.
