As a fan with a penchant for the unpredictable and captivating, I find myself deeply intrigued by the enigmatic figure that is Matt Riddle. His journey from the Octagon to the squared circle has been nothing short of mesmerizing, filled with triumphs, controversies, and a dash of drama.
Matt Riddle, formerly known as a WWE Tag Team Champion, has been talking about potential plans to rejoin the promotion following his release from UFC. In 2014, he moved from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling and quickly gained recognition on the independent scene. Eventually, he signed with WWE in 2018.
Rapidly advancing in the NXT division, Riddle made his main roster debut in 2020 with a victory over AJ Styles during his initial match on WWE SmackDown. Moreover, he clinched the United States Championship by triumphing against Bobby Lashley and John Morrison. Interestingly, a pivotal moment in Riddle’s career occurred when he formed an alliance with Randy Orton.
As a die-hard wrestling fan, I can’t help but notice the turbulence that’s surrounded Matt Riddle’s illustrious career in WWE. Regrettably, he’s found himself embroiled in several controversies, some of which involved high-profile figures like Goldberg and Brock Lesnar backstage. The rumors didn’t stop there; Riddle has also grappled with allegations of sexual assault and positive drug tests, which have undeniably cast a shadow over his otherwise impressive wrestling journey.
As an ardent WWE fan, I’ve followed the rollercoaster journey of Riddle. Twice, he was suspended by WWE, with the second suspension happening in 2022 due to a positive drug test result. Unfortunately, his career took a turn for the worse after a regrettable incident involving alcohol at a New York airport in 2023, leading ultimately to his release from the company.
At present, Riddle is participating in independent circuits. It’s been over a year since he left the WWE, but there’s hope for his return, as he’s expressed optimism about it. He even cited CM Punk’s comeback as an example that past misdeeds might be overlooked.
Matt Riddle confident about WWE return: “Chances are extremely high”
The ex-WWE star recently had a chat with Sports Illustrated, hinting at a possible return to WWE. He conveyed a great deal of confidence about his prospects of coming back. In his words, “I believe the odds of me returning are incredibly high. If CM Punk, who took legal action against WWE and publicly criticized them for years, can then switch to the competition, I’ll tell you this – if he can manage that, everything can be forgiven.
He went on to say, “I acknowledge that at times, our working relationship wasn’t straightforward, but there’s always a chance for change. The longer I stay away, the more diligent I become, and the more I achieve, the greater the possibility of my return. However, it’s also important to note that if I never return and they never reach out to me again, I can accept that situation.
I’m curious if we might witness a comeback from Riddle, a well-known figure in WWE. The answer lies in the future.
