Over the last fortnight, the tale surrounding Subnautica 2, its developers at Unknown Worlds, and its publisher Krafton has experienced some significant changes. Recent events appear to have resulted in the studio’s founders being dismissed and replaced, leading to a shift of Subnautica 2’s release date to 2026. Now, the original creators of Unknown Worlds Entertainment are pursuing legal action against Krafton.
In a Reddit post, Charlie Cleveland – one of the three founders of Unknown Worlds Entertainment – declared the initiation of a lawsuit. His post outlines the reasons behind their decision and previews the hurdles they anticipate encountering in the near future.
Following the dismissal of Charlie Cleveland, Max McGuire, and Ted Gill from Unknown Worlds, the company revealed that the release date for Subnautica 2’s early access had been pushed back to 2026. This delay seems to be a tactical decision on the part of publisher Krafton, who stands to receive a $250 million payment if the studio meets specific revenue targets by the end of 2025.
