Forgotten Marvel game revived by fans after sad server shutdown

As a longtime Marvel enthusiast who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of comic books and movies, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement at the resurrection of Marvel Powers United VR! I remember vividly when this game first graced our VR screens back in 2018, only to be snatched away from us just three years later.

The Marvel game we all forgot about is back with a vengeance. Years after being made unplayable by Meta, VR superhero game Marvel Powers United is now playable again on PC.

Developed by Sanzaru Games, the studio behind Asgard’s Wrath 2, Marvel Powers United VR debuted in 2018. Unfortunately, the game was shut down in 2021 due to insufficient player numbers. However, a passionate community of fans has managed to revive it.

Marvel Powers United VR returns

Through the Marvel Powers United Revival Project, the once-neglected virtual reality (VR) superhero game is now accessible once more. Originally available exclusively online, this dedicated team successfully separated the game from its digital constraints.

The long-neglected Marvel VR game is playable in full once more! By utilizing an external level select tool not embedded within the VR game’s main program, you can now enjoy all the game has to offer – except for its multiplayer elements.

Similarly, the game’s advancement mechanism remains unchanged. As you complete missions, you continue to earn new customization options for your preferred characters, and your advancement is still stored.

Although it’s unfortunate that there isn’t true multiplayer available, newcomers don’t start with a handicap since the game offers AI partners for single players. This makes Marvel Powers Unite playable on its own, and it’s thrilling to witness its comeback.

Is the game any good?

Marvel Powers United VR isn’t the top-tier VR experience, but given its status as an early exclusive, it’s quite basic in nature. Yet, for any ardent Marvel enthusiast or superhero aficionado, it’s a game that simply can’t be missed.

Featuring more than 20 characters to play with and several well-known adversaries to fight against, this wave-based action game offers a lot of enjoyable gaming experience. Although it may not have much depth, the thrill of swinging as Spider-Man, casting spells as Doctor Strange, or throwing your shield as Captain America is unparalleled in other games.
