This week, Ford communicated through Automotive News that it’s temporarily halting production for seven weeks on the new F-150 Lightning models. The affected 730 employees at its Michigan factory will be furloughed during this period. In a statement, Ford explained that the pause is necessary to achieve a balanced mix of sales expansion and profitability. Additionally, they anticipate that their Model e electric vehicle segment could result in approximately $5 billion in losses for the year.
This represents another significant hurdle in Ford’s endeavor to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market. Notably, they have paused work on an EV plant in Tennessee and scrapped entirely the idea of a three-row electric SUV.
