As a dedicated gamer who has spent countless hours inking up virtual battlefields since the glory days of Splatoon, I can’t help but feel a tinge of melancholy at Square Enix’s announcement about Foamstars. Having been there since its rocky launch earlier this year, I must admit that the game didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. However, like a stubborn squid clinging to the wreckage of a sunken battleship, I persisted, hoping for new seasons and fresh challenges to keep the adrenaline pumping.
Square Enix has declared that they won’t be adding any more new season content beyond the “Party Goes On” season which concludes in December. After this season wraps up around mid-January, the servers will remain active for players, but there are no plans for additional seasons after that point.
This week, Square Enix announced through a press release that they’ll be wrapping up the seasonal content for Foamstars with the upcoming “Party Goes On” season starting on December 13 and ending on January 17. After this date on January 17th, there won’t be any more updates to the game’s seasonal content. Essentially, it means no new seasonal content for the game moving forward. However, Square Enix clarified that their servers will continue to run because they plan to allocate their resources elsewhere.
Despite the servers continuing to operate, this seems ominous for Foamstars’ future. The game received unfavorable reviews back in February 2024 and has struggled to maintain interest since then. Although there are still players, as new content is no longer being added to the game, they will be left with the familiar experience for now.
Initially, Foamstars aimed to compete with games such as Splatoon, yet it appears that destiny did not favor it so. With its final planned season underway, keep an eye out for future developments concerning Foamstars, as new information surfaces.
