As a dedicated Marvel fan with years of experiencing following the intricate tapestry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I can hardly contain my excitement for Florence Pugh‘s return as Yelena Belova in “Thunderbolts.” The fact that she teased jumping off the second tallest building in the world, the Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has sent shivers down my spine.
Florence Pugh, who was nominated for an Oscar, has given a sneak peek into one of her riskiest actions featured in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, “Thunderbolts.” Production for this highly-anticipated movie ended around a month ago.
During a short chat at the 2024 Comic-Con in San Diego, Pugh playfully hinted that fans would be thrilled to witness her leaping from the world’s second tallest building. This impressive edifice is the Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, towering at a height of 2,227 feet.
In an exclusive interview, Florence Pugh shared that she portrays a character who leaps from the world’s second highest structure in Marvel’s upcoming film, “Thunderbolts.”

Florence Pugh Returns as Yelena Belova
In the upcoming Thunderbolts film, Florence Pugh portrays Yelena Belova for the third time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This follows her introduction as Natasha’s adoptive sister in the Black Widow movie (with Scarlett Johansson) three years prior. Subsequently, she appeared frequently in Hawkeye on Disney+, seeking vengeance for her sister’s demise in Avengers: Endgame by targeting Jeremy Renner’s title character.
Jake Schreier, who previously collaborated with Lee Sung Jin on Netflix’s “Beef,” directs this film from a screenplay co-written by them, with the initial draft penned by Eric Pearson. The movie features Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”) as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour (“Stranger Things” as Red Guardian), Sebastian Stan (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Wyatt Russell (“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as John Walker/US Agent), Hannah John-Kamen (“Ant-Man & The Wasp” as Ava Starr/Ghost), Olga Kurylenko (“Hitman” as Taskmaster), and Lewis Pullman (“Top Gun: Maverick” as Sentry). Schreier and Jin team up once more for this production, with a star-studded cast.
1. The movie’s plot revolves primarily around a group composed largely of villains and morally ambiguous characters. In a prior interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted that the asterisk in the project name serves a specific function, which we’ll understand once the film is released.
