In a recent conversation, actors Florence Pugh, David Harbour, along with other cast members of the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Thunderbolts,” explained why audiences might prefer their title team over the Avengers for completing tasks effectively. Distinctively, while the Avengers consists of Earth’s most powerful heroes, the Thunderbolts comprises an unconventional assortment of covert agents, assassins, faded public figures, and former adversaries.
Why you should choose Thunderbolts* for a mission over the Avengers
During an interview with Fandango, members of the Thunderbolts team discussed why they should be chosen over the Avengers for a secret mission. David Harbour, who plays Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian in the film, jokingly stated that victory would hold greater significance to them, emphasizing that it would mean a lot more to them.
Florence Pugh, playing Yelena Belova, explained that their approach won’t follow a typical path. Instead, they plan to execute it in an unconventional, messy way. Expect damaged sets and broken walls, but with panache. The cast then chimed in, “And don’t forget the character!
In simpler terms, Pugh mentioned that his team needed a bit more polishing, but the Thunderbolts team members seemed uninterested in what others had to say. During an interview, it was pointed out that the Thunderbolts were initially less expensive compared to the Avengers, but their insurance costs would increase once the mission was completed. Both the cast and the interviewer found this aspect of the Thunderbolts entertaining, which led Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker / U.S. Agent, to joke about high insurance premiums being cool.
When someone inquired about the rating the Thunderbolts would receive as a team on Yelp, Russell playfully replied, “Three and a half, if they offer half-star options.
In addition to the characters I’ve previously mentioned, the upcoming Thunderbolts movie features Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko portraying Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen stepping into the role of Ava Starr/Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus bringing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to life. This action-packed adventure hits U.S. theaters on May 2, 2025. I can’t wait to see it!
