As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must admit that the latest Project Rene leak has piqued my interest, but also left me with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Having grown up with The Sims series and witnessing its evolution from the original game to The Sims 4, it’s intriguing to see EA venturing into uncharted territory with Project Rene.
Previously known by some as “The Sims 5”, Project Rene is not a continuation of The Sims 4. Electronic Arts (EA) has made it clear that Project Rene will offer a unique, standalone online experience, whereas The Sims 4 remains the primary game. As of now, the official title for Project Rene has not been announced yet.
What does the new leak show?
A Reddit user posted details and images from a recent trial run of the mobile edition. The disclosure offers a glimpse into certain aspects of the game, particularly its online functionalities. Previous leaks have unveiled the Paris-inspired game environment, but this new playtest demonstrates a teamwork element where players can join forces in a coffee shop to generate income.

In this streamlined edition, no custom character creation was allowed – instead, players had to select from a set of four predefined characters. The gameplay revolved around accomplishing daily tasks, one of these tasks being working at a café. Here, players interacted with NPC clients by taking their orders and delivering goods like coffee and pastries. Content customers would compensate the players with Simoleons, which could later be used to shop in a clothing store.
Community concerned
Feedback on the leaks has been varied, with numerous fans voicing worries about the game’s payment methods. Snippets revealing the character and wardrobe options hint towards a possible use of premium currency. This, in turn, raises concerns that Project Rene might follow the same monetization patterns as other live-service games.

Criticism has not only focused on the game’s potential for microtransactions, but also the simplistic graphics. It’s important to note, however, that this material is from an early playtest, and the final version may look quite different. Let’s hope so.
