For June 2025, Steam Next Fest has returned, offering fresh demos of numerous upcoming games. Among the publishers showcasing at this event is First Break Labs, who unveiled several titles during the preview. Underwater Fire’s Particle Hearts, Fermenter Games’ Baseless, and ILA: A Frosty Glide from Magic Rain Studios are some of the new games from First Break that caught our attention. Each game offers a unique gaming experience, so you might want to check them out while their demos are accessible.
Particle Hearts gives us a beautiful world in only particles of light
In a stunning third-person adventure game called Particle Hearts by Underwater Fire, you’ll traverse a one-of-a-kind particle-based world where everything—from the characters to the landscapes—is meticulously constructed out of countless tiny elements. As you delve into this mysterious realm and uncover its secrets, you’ll gain control over these particles in various intriguing ways. In the demonstration, we witnessed a fascinating power bestowed upon the player by some of the world’s enchanting inhabitants: a deer and its offspring, both exquisitely rendered using particles.
In the game ‘Particle Hearts’, not every interaction you’ll have will be friendly, as some creatures may actively try to hinder you instead of assisting you in unraveling its mysteries. However, the abilities you receive can help you overcome these challenges. For example, we eventually encountered a menacing gate of sharp black spikes that blocked our hero from reaching their objective. Fortunately, the ability granted by the deer allowed us to transform into a cloud of particles and pass through barriers with holes, enabling us to safely navigate the dangerous spikes. The game ‘Particle Hearts’ will feature a variety of powers, providing you with numerous opportunities to adapt the world to your advantage in diverse ways.
Baseless is a gravity defying cosmic schmup
Coming up next are Fermenter Games and Baseless, offering an action-packed adventure in our game lineup. In
In Baseless, I’ve discovered that certain planets can be your adversaries rather than safe havens. While on these planets, you’re subject to their gravitational forces which could lead to perilous situations, such as plummeting towards the planet’s enormous beastly mouth. However, there are numerous powers at your disposal to enhance your skills and transform you into an even more formidable intergalactic champion. Ultimately, it seems that Baseless revolves around leaping, slicing, firing, and traversing through the cosmos in a thrilling manner, giving it an exhilarating feel.
ILA: A Frosty Glide is a 3D platforming climb full of snow and magic
On top of a snow-covered peak, apprentice witch ILA is frantically searching for her lost cat, Coco. Armed with her enchanted skateboard and a dash of magic, she plans to scale the mountain and reunite with her feline friend. Magic Rain Studios’ creation, ILA: A Frosty Glide, is a 3D puzzle platformer game. The unique feature lies in ILA’s magical skateboard, enabling her to soar through the air and perform mid-air tricks using her magical abilities to gain altitude and keep gliding. This leads to an array of aerial puzzles and challenges for players as they traverse the frosty island in search of Coco.
As an enthusiast, I must say that ILA: A Frosty Glide captivates me like no other! The blend of jumping, gliding, and even a hint of magic in this game is nothing short of exhilarating. The visual appeal is enhanced by its voxel art style, offering a diverse landscape to traverse, puzzles to conquer, and mysteries waiting to be uncovered.
Moreover, the game provides an opportunity to enhance our skateboarding abilities and magical prowess as we progress, enabling us to scale previously inaccessible heights. Simply put, ILA: A Frosty Glide is a thrilling adventure that I can’t wait to dive into!
Here are three games – Particle Hearts, Baseless, and ILA: A Frosty Glide – that you can try right now during the ongoing Steam Next Fest. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore them, as their demos will be available until June 16.
A Frosty Glide will be announced at a later time.
