Final Fantasy’s massive Magic the Gathering crossover made $200 million in 24 hours, and is Magic’s biggest collab yet

The collaboration sets between Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering and other franchises have broken records, but the official cross-over with Final Fantasy seems to outshine them all.

Magic the Gathering x Final Fantasy breaks Hasbro records

In a recently held earnings discussion, it was revealed by Hasbro’s CEO, Chris Cocks, that the Final Fantasy trading card collection generated sales amounting to $200 million within a 24-hour period.

With this remarkable achievement, the Wizards’ latest crossover has proven to be their most profitable one so far. During the same conference call, Cocks disclosed that the highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings crossover generated approximately $200 million in revenue within a span of six months.

Cocks stated that the rate at which Hasbro and Wizards were able to produce the Magic the Gathering crossover sets wasn’t fast enough to meet the overwhelming demand. Surprisingly, they increased production of the Final Fantasy set significantly, but the interest for its release turned out to be even greater than anticipated by Hasbro.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that we significantly boosted our pre-release production runs by four times, according to what Cocks mentioned. This was not just a bit more, but substantially ahead of any other production run we’ve ever undertaken, with numbers soaring way beyond the high double digits. The market was left craving for more!

The CEO of Hasbro clarified that the team failed to meet the full potential of consumer demand for their product, implying there was an opportunity to generate even more income if they had continued producing it in large quantities. Notably, this collaboration remains the largest crossover event in Magic: The Gathering’s history to date.

Over time, Magic the Gathering has seen a significant surge in crossover sets, mirroring the trend as Doctor Who, Assassin’s Creed, and other popular franchises jump into the mix.

In 2025, later in the year, Magic the Gathering will introduce an exhilarating Spider-Man crossover with characters like Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Venom, and more. This set is slated for release on September 26, 2025. Following this, the last collaboration set of 2025 will be Avatar: The Last Airbender, launching on November 21, which will bring together a multitude of characters from the animated series.
