Final Fantasy 14 by Square Enix is widely regarded as the top-notch MMORPG available today, but recently, it’s faced a series of problems. After the mediocre launch of Dawntrail, the game hasn’t quite maintained its typical trajectory towards excellence, instead experiencing some setbacks along the way.
Apart from enthusiasts, even the director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki ‘YoshiP’ Yoshida, has acknowledged that the game’s service quality has dropped somewhat in the last year. This decline, he suggests, is due to the team slipping into a sense of comfort or overconfidence.
Final Fantasy 14 lead apologises for, well, a lot
During the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXVII broadcast, YoshiP expressed his regret to the fanbase about the recent troubles the game has been experiencing. Given the numerous bugs that require “urgent maintenance or immediate fixes,” everyone involved understands the problems at hand.
Yoshida clarified that the team grew significantly due to the game’s tremendous success, but surprisingly, this expansion negatively impacted the studio’s workflows. In addition to his previous apology, YoshidaP announced there will be fresh content released in the future.
As our growth expanded, some aspects didn’t function as planned. We aim to correct and enhance these areas once more, particularly in light of the recent large updates. Our goal is to continue offering enjoyable and immersive content, and we are committed to doing so more effectively.
Indeed, it’s not just Final Fantasy 14 experiencing buggy updates and problems at the moment; even World of Warcraft’s latest update has been its most bug-ridden in its two decades, and other MMOs have faced similar challenges. However, despite these issues, Final Fantasy 14 remains a fantastic MMORPG that is definitely worth your attention, particularly given its generous free trial offer.
