FEFSI cancels all shoots in Chennai on THIS day to honor stuntman who passed away on Sardar 2 sets, releases statement

As a passionate fan and supporter of the Tamil film industry, I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of stuntman Elumalai during the making of Karthi’s upcoming film, Sardar 2. The news left me feeling helpless and distraught, as yet another life was senselessly taken due to negligence on set.

Last week, Elumalai, a 50-year-old stuntman, suffered a fatal fall from a height of 20 feet during filming for director PS Mithran’s Sardar 2 in Chennai. Karthi stars as the lead actor in this movie. In memory of Elumalai, FEFSI (Film Employees Federation of South India) has decided to halt film productions in Chennai on July 25, as per Daily Thanthi’s report.

The report states that FEFSI has stressed the necessity of utilizing proper safety gear at filming sites and voiced disappointment over numerous production companies disregarding safety rules. Previously, they have advocated for producers and studios to offer necessary medical amenities, such as ambulances, but these recommendations have mostly fallen on deaf ears.

The Federation drew attention to the risky work environments endured by film industry personnel, many of whom lack essential safety gear. In response to these issues, FEFSI has arranged a safety seminar on July 25, starting at 9:00 am, at Kamala Theater in Vadapalasi. The objective of this gathering is to disseminate safety practices and enlighten members about the importance of safety protocols.

On July 25, Selvamani from FEFSI has declared that there won’t be any indoor filming or television productions in Chennai. This decision is aimed at encouraging the largest possible turnout for the safety gathering.

As a seasoned film industry professional who has witnessed far too many accidents on set due to the lack of safety equipment and hazardous working conditions, I can’t stress enough the importance of prioritizing safety in our line of work. This is why I am thrilled to announce that we are organizing a special safety awareness meeting for all film artists and workers at 9:00 am on July 25, at Kamala Theater in Vadapalani.

What happened on the sets of Sardar 2?

On July 12, the sequel to last year’s film “Sardar,” titled “Sardar 2,” was formally initiated with a pooja ceremony. This significant occasion was graced by Karthi and his father, Sivakumar. Principal photography for the movie began on July 15. However, an unfortunate incident took place three days later, on July 17, at LV Prasad Studios in Saligramam.

After the unfortunate accident occurred, I quickly arranged for a police report to be filed and ensured that Elumalai received immediate medical attention at the hospital. However, despite our best efforts, he tragically passed away due to his injuries. In response to this heartbreaking news, Prince Pictures released an official statement expressing their deep condolences and providing details about the incident. I also made it a priority to attend Elumalai’s final rites as a sign of respect and support during this difficult time.
