FEFKA demands names of sexual abuse perpetrators in Malayalam cinema mentioned in Hema Commission report

As a passionate fan who has grown up admiring the magical world of Malayalam cinema, I find myself deeply troubled by the recent revelations that have shattered the illusion of innocence and camaraderie within this industry I hold dear. The Hema Committee report, though painful to read, is a necessary step towards exposing the dark underbelly of sexual abuse and harassment that has long plagued the Malayalam film fraternity.

The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) is urging for the disclosure of all individuals named as accused within the Hema Commission report, following their official statement on August 28th. This union is demanding that the identities of those responsible for sexual misconduct in the Malayalam film industry be made public. They acknowledge the severity of the situation and the significance of the Hema Committee’s findings.

Here’s one way we can rephrase the statement in easy-to-read language:

The statement comes in the wake of a #MeToo wave following the release of the Hema Committee report, which disclosed the abysmal working conditions and widespread sexual harassment faced by women in the Malayalam film industry.

On August 27, every leader within the AMMA, which includes its president, actor Mohanlal, stepped down from their roles due to numerous accusations of sexual misconduct and abuse levied against various individuals in the industry. Some of these accused are even part of the AMMA executive committee.

Based on an article from Onmanorama, FEFKA intends to review and disseminate the findings of the Hema Committee report. Additionally, FEFKA has committed to providing legal and emotional aid to the affected individuals. The union’s leadership meeting is set for between September 2nd and 4th, during which other leaders will discuss the Hema Committee report. It is also expected that B Unnikrishnan will participate in this gathering. The statement concluded by mentioning that they are seeking input from female members before making the analysis report public.

Following the dissolution of the AMMA committee, it was announced that a new leadership team would be chosen within the next two months. In the interim, the current committee will carry on their duties in a temporary capacity to ensure the continuation of AMMA’s activities, such as health and treatment support for its esteemed members, without any interruption.
