Fear the Walking Dead’s Colman Domingo to direct his first feature film

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more than a few reels of life, I must say the news about Colman Domingo is nothing short of exhilarating! This man’s got talent that spans across time and space, from the post-apocalyptic world of Fear The Walking Dead to the glitzy Rat Pack era in Scandalous.

Actor Colman Domingo, known for his role in Fear the Walking Dead as Victor Strand, bid farewell to this character during the eighth and final season of the show in 2023. Remarkably, he was among a select few characters who appeared in every season of The Walking Dead spinoff. Lately, he has been featured in remarkable productions such as Rustin, The Color Purple musical, Sing Sing, and others. According to Deadline, the Sammy Davis Jr. movie Scandalous, directed by Domingo himself, is all set to commence filming shortly with its cast finalized.

Miramax has expedited the production process for this upcoming movie, and it’s been announced that Domingo’s Euphoria colleague will take on the role of film icon Kim Novak. Additionally, David Jonsson has been cast as the multi-talented Sammy Davis Jr., singer and dancer. Filming is set to start following the completion of the third season of HBO’s Euphoria by Domingo and Sweeney.

In their upcoming project, Sweeney is set to both act and produce, similar to her role in the Netflix romantic comedy “Anyone But You.” Tani Cohen and Bobby Rock will also star alongside her, with Jon Levin overseeing production based on a script penned by Matthew Fantaci.

The narrative unfolds around the romantic tale between the stars Novak and Sammy Davis Jr., two prominent figures of the Rat Pack. Their paths crossed on The Steve Allen Show, sparking a deep connection. However, whispers and speculations about their relationship circulated widely, posing a significant risk to both their professional lives, given the prevalent racial prejudice in America during that era.

What’s new with Colman Domingo?

In this rendition, Tony (a renowned figure) and Domingo, who was nominated for an Academy Award, will take charge as both director and lead actor in a biographical musical film about the late multi-talented individual, Nat King Cole, who was a celebrated singer, jazz pianist, and actor. The screenplay, which he collaborated on, serves as the foundation for this production.

I’m thrilled to share that the stage play “Lights Out: Nat King Cole,” a project I co-created with director Patricia McGregor, is set to shine on New York Theater Workshop’s stage in the spring of 2025. Emmy Award nominee Dulé Hill, best known for his roles in The West Wing and Psych, will bring Nat King Cole to life, while Tony nominee Daniel J. Watts, who starred in The Refuge Plays and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, will portray Sammy Davis Jr. This captivating production initially debuted at the Geffen Theater in 2019.

Domingo’s Edith Productions is participating in the creation of an original Netflix movie called “It’s What’s Inside“. This film features actress Alycia Debnam-Carey, who you might recognize from Fear TWD. It’s a psychological thriller that involves a sophisticated game being played among a small gathering of old college friends during their reunion.

In addition to him, Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar will join him in the biopic about Michael. Notably, Domingo has been chosen to portray Joe, the family patriarch of the Jacksons. The movie “Michael” is directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is renowned for his initial directorial work, “The Replacement Killers.

Domingo is set to appear in both “The Four Seasons,” a series co-created by Tina Fey for Netflix, and the limited Netflix series titled “The Madness.
