As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the labyrinth of TV shows and movies, I can confidently say that the casting announcements these days are like the latest levels in my favorite game – challenging yet exhilarating! The latest news about A24’s new project, Marty Supreme, has certainly piqued my interest. With a hefty budget and an impressive cast including Timothée Chalamet, Fran Drescher, Gwyneth Paltrow, and the talented Spencer Granese, it’s shaping up to be a blockbuster!
According to reports from Deadline, actor Spenser Granese has been added to the cast of A24’s upcoming production titled “Marty Supreme.” This film draws loose inspiration from the life of 1950’s table tennis legend Marty Reisman, but it is not a biographical account, rather a work of fiction.
Marty Supreme is a movie produced and helmed by Josh Safdie, renowned for his work on films like Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019). He teamed up with Ronald Bronstein, a frequent associate of the Safdie brothers, to pen the story. According to Deadline, the film’s production cost is estimated at $70 million, making it A24’s priciest venture, outstripping the 2024 Civil War budget of $50 million.
Information regarding the characters and the storyline remains secretive. Marty Reisman, a trailblazer in table tennis, claimed two U.S. Men’s Singles Championships in 1958 and 1960. He is revered as one of the outstanding players during that era in ping-pong history.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to be part of the production team alongside Safdie, Bronstein, Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and A24, for this upcoming movie. Guess who’s taking on the lead role? You got it – me, Timothée Chalamet!
Filming for Marty Supreme began in New York City in Sept. 2024.
Spencer Granese
In the seventh season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” Granese portrayed Arnold, a character who had previously been part of Teddy’s (John Glover) apocalyptic cult. Later on, he rose to become the leader of the Stalkers, ultimately meeting his end in this position.
Lately, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to appear as a guest star in Ryan Murphy’s chilling drama, “Grotesquerie,” which premiered on FX and is now streaming on Hulu in September 2024. This gripping 10-part series follows Detective Lois Tryon, brilliantly played by Niecy Nash-Betts, as she teams up with Sister Megan, portrayed by Micaela Diamond, to solve a string of gruesome crimes that have been wreaking havoc in their community and personally impacting lives. The star-studded cast also includes Courtney B. Vance, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Raven Goodwin, and Lesley Manville. I’m thrilled to be part of such a captivating production!
Additionally, he appears in “La Cocina,” a drama penned and helmed by Alonso Ruizpalacios, which is inspired by a 1957 play of the same name by Arnold Wesker titled “The Kitchen.” This play was already transformed into a film back in 1961. The story unfolds within a Manhattan eatery located in Times Square, where the employees are in hot pursuit of the elusive American dream.
Apart from his performances in “Little Death,” a dramedy featuring David Schwimmer and Gaby Hoffman, Granese has also taken on roles in “Mayans M.C.”, “Barry”, and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”. Additionally, he will appear in “Stone Cold Fox”, a project starring Kiefer Sutherland and Krysten Ritter.
