Shakman stated that the Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayal of Mole Man leans more towards being a labor union leader than a traditional supervillain. Regarding his connection with the Fantastic Four, Shakman explained it as a complex power dynamic, but one where there are negotiations and partnerships. He emphasized that Mole Man values community above all, which is why Sue and Harvey share a good rapport and can relate to each other well.
Meanwhile, Hauser noted that Mole Man in First Steps’ portrayal seems to dwell in the shadows, reminiscent of a villain. However, he is not just a shadowy figure; he is also looking after an entire race and attempting to lead a peaceful life without unwanted interference.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled about Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps! This film takes us into a groovy 60s-inspired, futuristic universe where we meet the remarkable family that is Marvel’s First Family. That’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thick (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). They’re grappling with their heroic responsibilities while maintaining the unbreakable bond of family. The stakes are higher than ever, as they protect Earth from a ravenous cosmic entity called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious emissary, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). But it gets even more personal when Galactus threatens not just the planet but everyone on it!
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits United States theaters on July 25, 2025.
