As a long-time fan who has followed the Fantastic Beasts saga since its inception, it’s bittersweet to hear that Eddie Redmayne’s beloved character Newt Scamander might not be gracing our screens again. The first film was a magical adventure that truly enchanted us all, and I was hopeful for more tales from the wizarding world.
Eddie Redmayne recently weighed in on whether or not the Fantastic Beasts franchise will continue.
The Harry Potter spin-off series, introduced in 2016 through Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, initially showed a promising outlook. However, the subsequent films failed to garner the same level of critical acclaim as the first installment, leading to some doubts about the franchise’s future prospects.
Although it was initially intended to expand the Fantastic Beasts series with additional films, both The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022) have garnered a range of opinions from critics upon their debuts in cinemas.
What is the Fantastic Beasts update?
Indeed, there are fans who continue to anticipate more from the Fantastic Beasts series due to its tendency to delve into the histories of characters like Albus Dumbledore and Nagini that were also featured in Harry Potter. However, Redmayne, the actor who portrayed Newt Scamander in the films, has shared some less-than-encouraging news about the future of the franchise.
Redmayne implied that Newt is likely not returning in the Harry Potter series, based on his current knowledge. However, it’s possible you might see a glimpse of him in the Universal world expansion they’re developing in Florida.
The magical creature-focused movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them garnered positive feedback from both critics and viewers. However, while The Secrets of Dumbledore was praised by critics over Crimes of Grindelwald, it didn’t quite match the acclaim that the initial 2016 release enjoyed. Additionally, the ticket sales for the last two films failed to surpass those of the first installment.
In the upcoming future, Redmayne will appear in “The Day of the Jackal,” which is scheduled to debut on Peacock on November 14, 2024.
