Family Guy Joins Comedy Central as Part of Licensing Deal

As a long-time fan of animated comedy series, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy and anticipation at the news that Family Guy is joining Comedy Central‘s lineup! Having grown up watching the antics of the Griffin family and their quirky friends, it feels like coming home to see them back on a network I’ve always loved.

In simple terms, it’s been announced that the universe of “Family Guy” will be broadcasted on Comedy Central, following an agreement between Paramount and Disney that permits the popular sitcom to be aired there.

When does Family Guy start airing on Comedy Central?

Starting September 2, Family Guy reruns will start playing on Comedy Central. They’ll be alongside other well-loved comedies like South Park and Futurama. This move is part of a licensing agreement between Paramount and Disney, who currently own the rights to the comedy. New episodes of Family Guy will air on Fox every Wednesday this fall.

Kicking things off, I’m thrilled to share that this coming Labor Day, I’ll be binge-watching an entire day of Family Guy episodes on Comedy Central! After that, it’ll find its usual spot in their primetime lineup as part of the network’s regular schedule. Can’t wait!

“We’re thrilled to announce that Family Guy will now be airing on Comedy Central, joining the ranks of top-tier adult animation, including South Park, Futurama, and Beavis and Butt-Head, among others. Laurel Weir, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming at Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, explained that this addition aligns perfectly with our mission to provide daring, edgy, and culturally influential content for our viewers.”

Originally debuting on Fox in 1999, Family Guy was unexpectedly canceled after three seasons in 2002. But thanks to strong DVD sales and broadcasts on Adult Swim, the series made a comeback and has been airing continuously since then. Over the course of 22 seasons, a total of more than 400 episodes of Family Guy have been produced.

Since 2023, the show “Family Guy” has been airing every Wednesday night, which is the first time in over two decades that it’s been on weeknights. This comedy series, created by Seth MacFarlane, also features Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Mike Henry, Patrick Warburton, and Arif Zahir as part of the main cast.
