Fallout: New Vegas lead story writer rejoins Obsidian Entertainment

After over a decade’s absence, a key figure from Obsidian Entertainment is back in the fold once more. John Gonzalez, previously a lead writer at Obsidian known for his contributions to Fallout: New Vegas, parted ways with the company in 2011. Now, he has rejoined Obsidian in the role of creative director, clarifying that he won’t be jumping straight into development for Fallout: New Vegas 2 just yet.

Gonzalez shared his new position at Obsidian late last week on LinkedIn.

As your next Creative Director at Obsidian Entertainment, I’m thrilled to be diving back into the action! It’s not Fallout: New Vegas 2, but with my new role, we’re bound to create some truly exhilarating experiences in our upcoming projects!

In the year 2008, Gonzalez embarked on his professional journey at Obsidian Entertainment, following a spell at Ubisoft. During his tenure there, he served as the main story writer and played a significant role in launching the critically acclaimed Fallout: New Vegas. Subsequently, in 2011, he shifted to Monolith Productions, taking on the role of Narrative Designer, and worked on Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. In the year 2016, Gonzalez joined Guerrilla Games as a Narrative Director, contributing to both Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West until his departure in 2020. Prior to this year, he had also been associated with Smilegate Barcelona and Fantastic Pixel Castle, and was engaged in writing a personal novel.

Currently, Obsidian is keeping their cards close to their chest about what they and the studio are working on, if it’s not a Fallout game. However, considering their reputation as a renowned developer, it’s reasonable to anticipate another big-name project in the pipeline. In the meantime, keep an eye out for further developments in this story right here at Shacknews.
