The movie “Vettaiyan,” starring Rajinikanth, premiered in cinemas on October 10, 2024, representing Fahadh Faasil’s debut working alongside the superstar. Interestingly, it was Fafaa himself who requested to portray the character of Patrick.
Fahadh Faasil confirms of insisting to play Patrick in Vettaiyan
As I conversed with The Hollywood Reporter India, Fahadh Faasil shared an intriguing tidbit about his initial role in the Rajinikanth film. Originally, the team proposed a different character for me to portray.
In a different turn of events, the Aavesham star shared, “Initially, Vettaiyan’s role was proposed to me for a distinct part. Surprisingly, the same film was offered to me again, but for another character. Yet, upon hearing the storyline, I felt drawn to play Patrick. It was as if I had made up my mind: ‘I want this part,’ while Gnanavel sir desired me for the other role.
He found that there was not enough time for him to make the necessary changes to the character or add more scenes due to time constraints. He didn’t want to compromise the script for his own benefit either, so he chose to stick with what was already written. Sometimes these decisions have to be made, and it was clear that he needed to keep working while the narration was ongoing.
About Vettaiyan
In a different rendition, the film titled “Vettiyan” was an action-packed thriller with Rajinikanth in the main role. This production was skillfully directed by TJ Gnanavel. The plot revolves around Athiyan, a dedicated IPS officer specializing in encounters, who unfortunately shoots an innocent individual by mistake.
After discovering his mistake, the officer makes amends and delves deeply into the incident, uncovering an extensive academic fraud that underpinned everything.
In the starring position was a renowned actor, followed by an impressive ensemble cast that included Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, among others, all playing significant parts.
In the movie, it was the actor from Njan Prakashan who portrayed Patrick, a former thief turned ally to Athiyan, who worked alongside him on his missions while being outside the police force. Upon its premiere, Vettaiyan garnered mixed reactions, with some critics noting that Fahadh’s character seemed shallow.
On the work front
Fahadh Faasil will take center stage in the upcoming comedy-thriller film “Maaresan,” sharing screen time with Vadivelu. This highly anticipated project, helmed by director Sudheesh Sankar, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
Alternatively, you can expect the blockbuster film “Coolie,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, to hit the cinemas on August 14 this year, featuring the charismatic Rajinikanth.
