The unexpected resurfacing of Ezra Miller at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival has once again sparked public interest in their prior legal issues. Why is ‘Ezra Miller Controversy’ trending?

At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival held on May 17th, Ezra Miller graced the red carpet for an uncommon occasion, participating in the premiere of the film titled “Die, My Love.

Based on Variety’s report, the 32-year-old actor swiftly moved past snapping photographers and other guests without pausing for photos. Dressed in a burgundy tuxedo and beret, Miller made an appearance at the event to back director Lynne Ramsay, who had previously worked with him on the 2011 movie “We Need to Talk About Kevin.” This was his first red carpet event since the premiere of “The Flash” in June 2023.

Miller’s unexpected appearance at a prominent gathering comes after several years marked by contentious incidents. The actor has been involved in numerous legal predicaments, such as being arrested for disorderly conduct in Hawaii, charged with assault, and facing a felony burglary case in Vermont (according to PEOPLE). In addition, a video emerged in April 2020 showing Miller seemingly choking a woman in Iceland (as reported by Variety). The actor also made headlines in 2022 due to a restraining order filed against them by two residents of Hawaii and allegations of inappropriate conduct towards minors.

Last summer of 2022, I myself came to recognize my actions, confessing to E! News, “I’ve come to realize I grapple with intricate mental health issues and have embarked on continuous treatment.” I also expressed, “I extend my deepest apologies to everyone I may have alarmed or upset with my past behavior.

In January 2023, Miller admitted guilt for a misdemeanor unlawful trespass charge, which led to a year-long probation sentence and spared him from jail time in various occurrences. Director Andy Muschietti expressed on The Discourse podcast in May 2023 that “there might not be anyone else who can play that character as skillfully as they did,” referring to Miller’s portrayal of The Flash.

Miller has not taken on any new film roles since then and remains largely out of the spotlight.
