EXCLUSIVE: Vettaiyan director TJ Gnanavel spills beans on his movie with Suriya after their critically acclaimed venture Jai Bhim

As an ardent fan of TJ Gnanavel’s work and Suriya’s stardom, I am beyond thrilled about their upcoming collaboration! Their previous project, Jai Bhim, was a powerful narrative that resonated deeply with audiences, and I have no doubt that their second film together will be equally impactful.

In a recent chat with TopMob, director TJ Gnanavel shared insights about an upcoming movie he’s working on with actor Suriya. This new project will be their second collaboration following “Jai Bhim.” Filming is scheduled to start once Suriya finishes his current obligations.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m here to share some insights. Regarding the project I mentioned earlier, it hinges on Suriya’s availability. He’s currently tied up with two or three projects. We had previously agreed to meet following the release of Vettaiyan to discuss the details. However, due to his busy schedule, we’re planning to catch up during the first week of November. This meeting will help us understand his current situation and when he might have some free time to dive into our project.

As a lifestyle expert speaking about filmmaking, I’d put it like this: “The screenplay for our upcoming project has been finalized and we’ve even started preliminary production steps. All that remains is to keep pushing forward with pre-production as planned. Should our lead actor confirm his availability, we could potentially start shooting within the next three to four months, provided we can coordinate schedules.

When asked if his upcoming movie would resemble Jai Bhim or Vettaiyan, filmmaker TJ Gnanavel stated that his new project would not follow the same pattern as his previous films. He elaborated by saying that this new film will feature a distinct setting and is significant due to being based on a true story. The movie won’t involve themes related to police or judiciary, unlike his prior works. Additionally, he mentioned that the plot is inspired by an article he wrote as a journalist, making it just as personal to him as Jai Bhim.

Previously, TJ Gnanavel and Suriya collaborated for the movie “Jai Bhim,” which premiered exclusively on Amazon Prime Video last year (2021). This production was financed by both Suriya and Jyothika and is based on a real event that took place in Cuddalore during 1993.

The movie depicted the story of marginalized communities encountering police bias and state-sanctioned violence, as exemplified by a court case led by Justice K. Chandru. Besides Suriya, this film featured notable performances from Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj, and others in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that Suriya is planning his upcoming project under the direction of RJ Balaji, currently referred to as Suriya 45. Additionally, he has two other films in development – one titled Kanguva and another with Karthik Subbaraj, both of which are yet to be released, labeled as Suriya 44.
