What is The Baby in the Basket about?
The plot summary for the film goes like this: In 1944, a newborn baby is abandoned on the doorstep of a secluded monastery situated on an isolated island off the Scottish coast. The woman who left the child vanishes without a trace into the stormy night and is never seen again. Finding the infant, the nuns decide to take care of him until the storm subsides and they can transport him to the mainland. However, strange occurrences start happening shortly after the boy’s arrival, causing one of the nuns, Sister Agnes, to believe that he is the son of the devil. As a result, she locks him away. The other nuns, who think Sister Agnes has lost her mind due to the isolation, try to help her, but she claims to be haunted by the presence of the child. Was it the isolation that drove Sister Agnes mad, or is there truth in her suspicion?
