Exclusive The Art of Futurama Preview Shows Early Fry & Leela Concept Art

As a long-time fan who’s witnessed the evolution of animated comedy, I can hardly contain my excitement over The Art of Futurama! Growing up with The Simpsons, I never thought another show would capture my heart quite like it did, but Futurama managed to do just that. To have an in-depth look at its development and visual history is a dream come true for me.


Looking forward, ComingSoon plans to unveil a special sneak peek of The Art of Futurama, featuring initial sketches of characters Fry and Leela, along with the foreword penned by the series’ creator, Matt Groening.

The art book titled “The Art of Futurama” by Abrams ComicArts is set to release on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in bookstores, and on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in comic book stores. This 176-page book includes commentary from creators Matt Groening, David X. Cohen (showrunner), and Claudia Katz, as well as the writers, animators, and voice actors of the popular animated sci-fi series. The book retails at $35 in the US and showcases full-color illustrations throughout.

The first and unique ‘Art of Futurama’ book delves into the initial seven seasons of the show, which debuted on Fox from 1999. By perusing this book, readers will uncover the evolution and visual timeline of all 150 episodes, featuring new content, previously unseen concept art, sketches, developmental work, and a comprehensive guide for each episode.

Back in March 1999, Futurama premiered on TV and was hailed as one of the most visually impressive shows out there. This book is a salute to all the amazing artists who sculpted, constructed, and refined the stunning, epic, breathtaking, and (now that it’s been 25 years) continuously evolving Futurama Universe, according to Claudia Katz in her introduction as a fellow gamer.

Charles Kochman, Editor-in-Chief at Abrams ComicArts, noted that Abrams has had a deep relationship with Matt Groening regarding The Simpsons books. He expressed excitement about extending their publishing to encompass “The Art of Futurama”. They look forward to collaborating closely with Matt and his team on this extensive and authoritative visual history, which is an essential addition for any animation, television, or sci-fi enthusiast.
