What is Silent Trees about?

In the story titled ‘Silent Trees’, we meet Runa, a 16-year-old Kurdish refugee and her family who find themselves stuck in a freezing forest along the Belarusian-Polish border, barred from entering either country. With her mother’s untimely death due to the harsh conditions, Runa must take on responsibilities far beyond her years, caring for her younger siblings and supporting her father. After being relocated to a Polish refugee camp, the family faces the emotional turmoil of their loss while working hard to adjust to life in this unfamiliar country.

As her father struggles tirelessly against language difficulties and other daunting obstacles in his search for work to support their family, Runa finds solace in sketching. The movie transforms these drawings into animated scenes that reflect her hopes and fears. “Silent Trees” is a powerful tale of growth and a grueling odyssey for one family, mirroring countless others striving to endure and maintain hope amidst the harsh realities of the worldwide refugee crisis.
