As a devoted follower of Tamil cinema and a fortunate witness to the magic unfolding within its realm, I can confidently say that working alongside the legendary Rajinikanth on Coolie has undeniably been an unparalleled experience for me. Growing up with Kamal Haasan as my father, the aura of stardom surrounding Thalaivar was not necessarily intimidating, but rather a familiar and comforting radiance that I have come to appreciate even more after spending time on set.
Currently, Shruti Haasan is teaming up with Rajinikanth for their upcoming movie titled “Coolie.” This film, helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has Shruti portraying the character of Preethi in a high-octane action-thriller. Recently, in an exclusive interview with TopMob, Shruti discussed her collaboration with Thalaivar and opened up about the special relationship between him and her father, Kamal Haasan.
Shruti Haasan expressed that working alongside Rajinikanth on the set of Coolie was nothing short of wonderful. She went on to say, “Working with him is truly a delight. Over the past few weeks or months, we’ve been filming together for Coolie, and I can genuinely say he’s an incredibly kind individual to collaborate with. Kindness is scarce in today’s world, but when someone as accomplished and legendary as Rajinikanth maintains their kindness, it makes the experience all the more unique.
When inquired about her feelings working alongside Thalaivar during the filming process, she responded, “Growing up as Kamal Haasan’s daughter, his radiance doesn’t exactly instill fear, to be honest. However, it’s quite pleasant since it turns out that my family and I didn’t interact much during my childhood. Primarily because there were few film families, and as I grew older, I mainly socialized with school friends.
Shruti Haasan mentioned that she knew Rajinikanth mainly based on what others said before working with him. Yet, getting a chance to know him up close was an extraordinarily meaningful experience for her.
She mentioned, “Just like everyone else, I only knew Rajinikanth sir through what others told me. However, getting to know him personally is truly unique. What makes it even better is when he speaks fondly of my father. He shares anecdotes from their early days in the industry, which are incredibly enjoyable. It’s simply amazing!
Besides Coolie, Shruti Haasan is set to return to her character for the sequel of Prabhas’s movie titled Salaar 2. This film is helmed by director Prashanth Neel, and the original version premiered in 2023.
When inquired about the status of the movie, she replied, “I’m still not completely certain. They’ve only confirmed that it’s going ahead 100%, but the specifics like when, where, and how it will take place remain undisclosed for now.” Further information regarding the action thriller is kept secret.
