What is Our Happy Place about?
In the synopsis of the movie, it’s stated that “Raya wakes up in the forest, feeling cold and disoriented, with no idea how she arrived there. Every morning, this same scenario repeats itself,” describes the opening of the film. “By the third day, Raya wakes up in a shallow grave. The graves seem to get deeper each time, suggesting an unseen entity is burying her alive. At her cabin, she’s plagued by visions of tormented women whose cries haunt her thoughts. Night after night, these visions grow stronger, making it hard for Raya to distinguish between dreams and reality. As the hauntings become more intense, Raya is forced to face a terrifying truth that challenges everything she thought she knew.
Our Happy Place is a psychological horror movie written and directed by Paul Bickel, who’s also set as one of the lead actors. This marks Bickel’s feature-length directorial debut after previously directing and writing short films such as 2007’s Hollow and 2011’s Turning Japanese. The cast includes Bickel, Raya Miles, Tracie Thoms (9-1-1, Devil Wears Prada), and Eugene Byrd (Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid), with Bickel, Miles, David Ho, and Thoms serving as the film’s producers. The horror drama currently has a total running time of 91 minutes or 1 hour and 31 minutes.
