As a die-hard horror movie enthusiast who’s seen more cult films than I care to count, I can’t help but get excited about the latest offering from The Asylum – Heretics! Having grown up on a steady diet of B-movies and mockbusters, I can appreciate the artistry and cheekiness that goes into creating these delightful cinematic gems.
ComingSoon can exclusively reveal the trailer for Heretics, the latest mockbuster from The Asylum.

What is Heretics about?
The rediscovered videos show a chilling tale where a band of teenagers enter the deserted Simmons House for fun, only to find themselves trapped in a terrifying scenario. Initially thinking it’s just an exciting escapade, they soon realize that they have stumbled upon a secret cult planning to sacrifice them one by one.
The film is directed by Jose Prendes, while the script was written by Ryan Ebert.
The Asylum is recognized for producing films similar to popular studio releases, often coinciding with them in timing. The latest example is “Heretics,” which seems to be inspired by A24’s “Heretic.” This new horror movie is directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and features stars like Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East.
In the summary for “Heretic,” we find two eager missionaries who unwittingly approach the wrong house and encounter a cunning character named Mr. Reed, played by Hugh Grant. They find themselves drawn into his dangerous game of hide-and-seek.
More current films from The Asylum this year that mimic popular titles include Ape x Mecha Ape: New World Order (imitating Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire), Road Wars: Max Fury (resembling Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Alien Rubicon (echoing Alien: Romulus), and The Twisters (emulating Twisters). In 2024, their releases include Monster Mash, Snow White and the Seven Samurai, Earthquake Underground, and Methgator.
The movie “Heretics” will be screened at the Laemmle Glendale in Glendale, California, Aurora Cineplex in Roswell, Georgia, Film Noir Cinema in Brooklyn, New York, Hickory Ridge Cinemas in Brunswick, Ohio, and Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
