In an exclusive reveal, we’re thrilled to announce that the upcoming coming-of-age drama film, “Benji’s Hour,” created by Gabriel Kahane, has been picked up by Buffalo 8 for distribution across North America.
In the upcoming movie titled “Benji’s Hour,” actors Justin Mark (known for Gotham and Red Dead Redemption II), Holly Heiser (Sleepaway Slasher), and Catherine Curtin (Stranger Things, Orange Is the New Black) are featured. The plot revolves around a young man who finds himself working at a store that supplies wigs to cancer patients. As of now, there’s no announced release date for the film in the United States.
The movie’s narrative centers around Benji (Justin Mark), a defiant teen, who is ordered by the court to perform community service at a wig shop catering to cancer patients for three months. Susan (Catherine Curtin), the shop owner, offers a unique blend of compassion and steadiness amidst Benji’s tumultuous life, but it’s his reserved coworker Laura (Holly Heiser) who captivates him. Sharing similar sorrows, they form an unexpected connection, venturing together on a path of personal growth, fortitude, and difficult decisions.
What else do we know about the Benji’s Hour movie?
Kahane is stepping into his first role as a feature film director with “Benji’s Hour”. Back when he was just 15, ideas for the movie’s script began to form on a New York City subway ride. He eventually filmed the movie around six years later, at the age of 21.
In addition to the aforementioned cast, Benji’s Hour stars Kirsten Russell and Emma Kothari.
I’m thrilled to be a part of this movie that’s brought to life under the guidance of Kahane, who’s not just any director, but the mastermind behind Gossamer Films – his production company. Incredibly, Kahane isn’t working alone; he’s joined by John Hadity and an impressive team led by Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor from Buffalo 8. They all serve as executive producers for this project!
Mark was honored with the Best Performance in a Drama category Jury Award at the Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival, for his part in Benji’s Hour. Meanwhile, Russell received the Best Supporting Performance in a Drama category Jury Award. Additionally, the film secured a nomination for Best International Feature at the Calgary International Film Festival.
